A report of her Excellency Mrs. Layla Al Solh Hamade's visit to Dar Al Ajaza Al Islamia Hospital and the signing of a 300.000 $ help contract to establish a palliative care unit in the hospital:
  • On Wednesday, November 10, 2007 at 10:30 am with the sponsorship and presence of her Excellency Mrs. Layla Al Solh Hamada the vice president of Al Waleed Bin Talal Humanitarian Foundation a financing of starting a palliative care unit project agreement has been signed which includes eight beds for palliative care treating coma patients and cancer patients in terminal cases and some patients of incurable cases. This has been coordinated with Beirut's Governmental Hospital and the Ministry of Public Health who took part as partners in this project.
  • The project will be finalized within three months and it will be the first of its kind in Lebanon therefore it aims to reduce monetary burden off the ministry and to give a chance to intensive care patients to find places for them inside Dar Al Ajaza Al Islamia Hospital and to reduce the burden off the patient since the ministry will cover a part of this cost.
  • The agreement has been signed in the hospital between Al Walid Bin Talal association represented by her Excellency Mrs. Layla Al Solh Hamade and Dar Al Ajaza Al Islamia Hospital represented by his Excellency Mr. Mohammad Al Ghaziri the president of the Board of trustees and with the presence of the governmental hospital director Doctor Wassim Al Wazzan and a representative of the Ministry of Public Health Mr. Ali Khalife who gave their blessing to this project with the approval of his Excellency the general manager of the ministry and his Excellency the minister of public health. And the signing ceremony was attended by a number of members of the of the Board of trustees, the ladies committee, doctors, and the administrators in the hospital.
  • After the signature and the exchange of records the Hospital's Manager gave a speech welcoming everyone and thanking the Waleed Bin Talal Foundation for her quick response to the hospital’s demand, explaining the importance of the project on Lebanon’s level and he cleared the mechanism that will be used in establishing the project activating it, covering its costs and its desired interest.
  • Then Mr. Abed El Salam Marini gave a speech on the behalf of Al Waleed Bin Talal Foundation explaning that the Foundation's response to the Dar Al Ajaza's demand regarding what the project aims for by standing with all respect in front of the patients and the long term suffering, and he stressed on the continuous progress Dar Al Ajaza has reached regarding the improvement of performance and developing the personality capacities, Doctor Wazzan spoke right after saying that the project could be developed in the future and generalized also.
  • And an intervention of her Excellency Mrs. Layla Al Solh Hamade where she showed the preparation of the Foundation to keep along with everything that has to do with strengthening this project now and in the future. Then there was a speech for the health ministry representative Mr. Ali Khalifeh where he assured that the ministry and his Excellency the minister of health will stand firmly by this project and give out the help they can especially to the humanitarian projects that improve the communication with the citizen and his health.
  • Finally the president of the Board of trustees his Excellency Mr. Mohammad Al Ghaziri gave a speech showing his gratitude for the help and his appreciation to the governmental hospital's standing by as a supporting end in this project and thanking the ministry of health for its approval and support and he stressed on the futuristic projects of the hospital that make the Lebanese citizen feel safe and reassured especially when he's behind the one carrying the burden of hospitalization of charity doers.

About the project:

  • In order to reduce the burdens that the patient and the hospital and the ministry hold, from the patients in the public hospitals who need special health care in cases of coma or palliative care or recovery with the necessary medical equipments Dar Al Ajaza Al Islamia hospital and Rafic Al Hariri governmental hospital were able to reach a provisional agreement to establish a care unit in our hospital to receive of coma and palliative care patients who are in need of a specialized medical and nursing care.
  • Total area of the unit: 150 square meters.
  • Beneficiaries of the project: Ministry of Public Health patients.
  • Total number of beds: eight
  • Type of patients we can receive:
    • NFR convertible patients
    • Tracheostomies patients
    • Cancer patients in the final stage (Terminal Stage Cancer)
    • Coma patients
  • The costs to establish a unit: 300.000 $.
  • Time needed to establish the project: Three months.
